SCREAM
At one point in time Kevin Williamson wrote a movie called “Scream” and wrote a T.V. Show on then the WB which is now the CW called “Dawson’s Creek” then some place in between both of those falls this late 90’s slasher film. I recently sat down to re-watch this movie in preparation for Halloween and realized that this is a sleeper slasher film of the 90’s. Yes, this movie doesn’t hold a match to the likes of “Scream” or “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” but it finds its niche and works within that groove. This movie offers up one of the hottest late 90’s heartthrob casts with the likes of Jarred Leto, Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek), Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville), Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart (Jawbreaker), Tara Reid (American Pie), and even Danielle Harris (Yes, Jamie from Halloween 4&5) playing the goth roommate who comes to an incredible grisly end. I won’t spoil that scene. It’s a movie that even 20 years later still suffers from the fact it boasts a better idea than finished product but with the help of strong WB actors and a once over from Scream Scribe Kevin Williamson this movie manages to provide some nostalgic fun. Maybe it’s reliving the late 90’s pop culture or teen moodiness that Williamson was classic at providing to everything he got involved with. I believe all of that helps but the true joy comes from the practical effects and watching the first true attempt by Hollywood to portray some of our favorite urban legends on the big screen. So if you are looking for a fun horror throwback or something new to add to the Halloween binge fest I’d recommend throwing in this hidden gem of the late 90’s. Sit back, Enjoy and remember to turn the lights on.
The Flash Movie Delayed…Again
For whatever reason, Warner Bros. continues to struggle with getting the standalone The Flash movie off the ground. Variety first reported the delay again, this time it was due to star Ezra Miller’s commitment to Fantastic Beasts 3 that is set to begin shooting soon. The Flash was supposed to start shooting in March but Fantastic Beasts begins shooting in July 2019. You can read more about the delay below but it appears we will have to wait at least another three years before we finally see our standalone Flash movie.
