Top 10 Films of 2019

I have provided you with my countdown of the 20 best films from the past decade https://bit.ly/2SIKhIy but it’s time to provide the 10 best films of 2019.

Now I feel a little bad putting this out because a couple films I had hoped to see I didn’t get the chance to watch. Jojo Rabit, The Irishman & Parasite are three off the top of my head but either way 2019 was a great year for films. I think over the last decade 2018 & 2019 made for two years in which many films truly captured our imaginations and provided some incredible entertainment. I thank streaming partly for that because over the last two years Netflix has played a bigger role in our viewing habits and producing great movies. With that being said lets look at the best films of last year:

10 – Joker

9 – Marriage Story

8 – Dolemite Is My Name

7 – Frozen II

6 – MidSommar

5 – Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood

4 – Uncut Gems

3 – Knives Out

2 – Booksmart

1 – Avengers: Endgame

Yes, the super hero movie was my top film of the past year. Unlike two other big endings this year the MCU nailed it. Now I’m not going to hate on Game of Thrones or Star Wars but when you see those endings compared with Endgame which closed off a 20 plus film, 10 year journey that landed in every way it’s hard not to understand why this topped my list. Even if you didn’t join the MCU on that run & casually viewed those films the magnitude of what Endgame was still landed. Netflix also took back to back spots on my list. Eddie Murphy returned in a movie that gives a fantastic look at how Hollywood works and the idea of never giving up on your dreams no matter how many times you’ve failed. Marriage Story was one of the best acted films I saw this past year and Adam Driver is doing incredible work right now. If you missed out on Uncut Gems I highly recommend seeking it out. The entire film is one big anxiety attack building and building until one of the most intense finishes I’ve witnessed. Plus lets be real for a moment Adam Sandler is fantastic & deserves recognition along with the Safdie Brothers for this masterpiece of a film. Booksmart is another film that if you missed seek it out because this was one of the funniest movies 2019 offered and one of the most relevant in terms of society.

What do you think of my list? How wrong am I? Also what are your top films of the past year? Let me know in the comments.
