Comic Con 2022 Quick Hits: Marvel and DC Took Over San Diego

San Diego Comic Con has come and gone.

What a weekend it was for news and updates on some of our favorite comic & movie franchises. I actually talked about things we should be keeping an eye on at this years SDCC in a podcast recently (Ep 48 – Did Venom 2 Help Top Gun: Maverick? (podbean.com))

If you missed any of the highlights from this year’s Comic Con I go you covered:

First up we learned two new “Avengers” movies are coming, and they’ll close out Phase 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” is coming May of 2025 and then “Avengers: Secret Wars” hits the following November, just six months later. We also learned after some rumors that the Russo Brothers will not be back to direct the next two Avengers films.

Other Marvel news saw the release of the first trailer  “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. This gives us our first look at the upcoming sequel that is moving forward without Chadwick Boseman after his passing. It also gives us our first look at Namor.

Marvel also released first look stuff at the new Disney+ short “I am Groot” and they screened some “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania” footage along with “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3” stuff.

DC not to be outdone by Marvel showed up and dropped the new trailer for “Shazam! Fury of the Gods”

And they also had Dwayne Johnson show up to promote “Black Adam” but unfortunately no Henry Cavill which was rumored for the DC Panel. (Henry Cavill Rumored to Appear at San Diego Comic Con to Talk More Superman | Q101 (q101online.com))

We also got a sneak peak for the fourth “John Wick” film and this time it’s called “John Wick”.

And I’ll wrap this up with “The Walking Dead” panel which I said would be a big one. This was the last time the main show was showing up to SDCC and you just had a feeling between all the emotions of the past decade coming to a head that they’d pull off some surprise. Did they ever!!!! We got a really great trailer hyping up the final episodes for the final season:

We also got a first look at “Tales of the Walking Dead”:

But the big moment was when Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira showed up on stage and it was announced that the Rick Grimes movies they’d been planning will now be a limited series about Rick and Michonne.

That’s just some of the key moments from this past weekend at San Diego Comic Con. What are you most excited for?
