HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts chose Stone Spring Elementary School as one of five schools in the nation to participate in the Changing Education Through Performing Arts Model Schools program.

School Principal Norris Bunn said at Tuesday night’s Harrisonburg City School Board meeting that they were honored by the selection and he explained what that the selection means for the school.

“What that means is that we have entered into a three-year commitment with the Kennedy Center,” Bunn said. “They are providing us access to their arts integration or arts education conference. We had nine people go this last year and then we’ll be able to send nine or 10 people for the next couple of years to that and then they have some ongoing training that they’ll be providing.”

Back in 2014, Stone Spring received the Kennedy Center’s designation as an “arts integration focus school.”
