‘Protect Our Care’ tour stops in Harrisonburg

HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A bus tour spreading the word about the Affordable Care Act and Inflation Reduction Act rolled through Friendly City Monday afternoon.

The organization ‘Protect Our Care’ is traveling across the country touting the need for both pieces of legislation. With the Affordable Care Act and Inflation Reduction act both at stake in the upcoming presidential election, the tour has featured locals at every stop who have been positively impacted by the policies and advocate for their importance.

Tim Jost, an emeritus professor of law at Washington and Lee University and an expert on health law and policy, told the story of his own experience with Medicare when treating his cancer several years ago.

“We have made great progress in making healthcare more accessible and affordable to Americans over the past decade,” Jost said. “Let’s not go back to the days of pre-existing conditions, condition exclusions, unaffordable health insurance premiums, and understated drug policies.”

Mayor Deanna Reed also event’s speakers at Ralph Sampson Park. She pointed out that protecting health care is one the reasons she’s running for re-election this November.

“Make no mistake, this threat is real and people in our community could have their health care ripped away from them if Donald Trump and Maga Republicans get their way,” Reed said. “That’s why I’m in here. That is why we are running.”

The bus tour will next head to Durham, North Carolina as the trek continues through more than 17 states leading up to election day.
