HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – A pair of goals from freshman Holly Minshull propelled James Madison women’s soccer past the UNC Greensboro Spartans, 4-1, at Sentara Park on Sunday afternoon.
Minshull recorded the first multi-goal game of the season for a Duke (2-3-0) and the first of her career. Also scoring goals for JMU were Aleigha Arndt and Ellie Farrell, with Farrell adding an assist for three points. Olivia Del Toro recorded a career-high two assists.
Sofia DeCerb got the start at goalkeeper, playing the entire first half before being relieved by Kennedy Rist at halftime. Freshman keeper Natalie Muniz saw ten minutes of action.
Laney Smith paced UNCG (3-3-1) with a goal. Blythe Clark started in between the posts for the Spartans, making five saves in 45 minutes of play.
How it Happened
• JMU’s offense earned a corner kick in the fourth minute but could not leverage the opportunity.
• After earning a trio of corner kicks in the 15th minute, the Dukes capitalized on the third with Minshull sneaking a shot in from a UNCG deflection.
• JMU extended its lead in the 21st minute as Del Toro found Farrell in the box to move the score to 2-0
• Spartans got their first chance of the game with a shot on goal in the 23rd minute.
• Two minutes later, a strike off the right foot of Arndt found the net, giving JMU a 3-0 lead all the way into the half.
• JMU placed a pair of shots on goal at the beginning of the second half before Minshull logged her second score of the game following a shot that rebounded off the post, handing the Dukes a 4-0 advantage.
• Despite a late UNCG goal, JMU managed to pick up its second win of the 2026 campaign.

• JMU’s 25 shots and 14 shots on goal are both season highs.
