James Madison Men’s Basketball cruises past Texas State, 82-57

HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison men’s basketball shot 52.6 percent from the floor and made 14 threes in an 82-57 rout of Texas State on Saturday afternoon at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.

JMU (10-11, 3-6 Sun Belt) raced out to a 47-28 halftime lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 28 in the second half to come away with the win over Texas State (11-11, 4-6 SBC).

Justin McBride and Cliff Davis led the Dukes with 18 points apiece, as the duo combined to go 9-of-12 (.750) from behind the arc. Bradley Douglas scored 13 points and led JMU with five assists off the bench, while Christian Brown scored four points and led the Dukes with nine rebounds.

Mark Drone paced Texas State with 17 points but went just 5-of-19 from the floor. DJ Hall scored 14 points while Kaden Gumbs scored nine points and led the Bobcats with four assists.

How It Happened
First Half: James Madison 47, Texas State 28
• Tied 10-10, McBride scored five quick points to put the Dukes ahead 15-10, and JMU led 20-13 at the under-12 timeout.
• A pair of three-pointers from Cliff Davis gave JMU its largest lead of the half (44-25) as Texas State called a timeout.

Second Half: James Madison 82, Texas State 57
• The Dukes sprinted out to a 28-point lead in the second half, leading 73-45 with seven minutes left and cruising the rest of the way.
• JMU controlled the game, leading for nearly 37 minutes.

Game Notes
• JMU made 10 three-pointers in the first half – tied for the most in the first 20 minutes this season. The Dukes also made 10 threes in the first half against Coppin State on Nov. 9.
• JMU’s 25-point win is the fourth-largest margin in a conference game since joining the Sun Belt in 2022-23.
• Cliff Davis finished 6-of-9 from three, tying his season-high in three-point makes. Through 21 games, Davis is shooting 38.1 percent from behind the arc.
• McBride scored in double figures for the 18th time this season, finishing with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
