Hubert “Hugh” Daniel Rohrer


Hubert Daniel “Hugh” Rohrer, 87, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Bellaire at Stone Port, where he had resided since 2017.

 

Mr. Rohrer was born October 15, 1936, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Amos Daniel and Josie Jones Rohrer.

 

Hugh was the youngest of twelve children. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force. He became a professional driver for Smith’s Transfer, Shenandoah’s Pride and his favorite, RMH parking lot shuttle driver, where he made and renewed many treasured friendships. He was a member of Victory Fellowship Church and Montezuma Ruritan Club.

 

On July 10, 1961, he married Evyleen Dare Murphy from Pocahontas County, West Virginia, who preceded him in death on February 26, 2018.

 

Surviving are a brother, Sam Rohrer, and a sister, Lydia Showalter, both of Montezuma; his son, Danny Rohrer and wife, Jackie of Harrisonburg; daughter, Vickie Conley and husband, Randy of Harrisonburg; daughter-in-law, Judy Chapman; son-in-law, John McCraine; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son, Rick Chapman; daughter, Patsy Rohrer McCraine; seven sisters and two brothers.

 

A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
