MOUNT CRAWFORD, VA (Rocktown Now) – A car crashed into a fire engine responding to a tractor trailer accident on I-81 late last night in Rockingham County.

According to Fire Chief Jeremy Holloway, it all began when firefighters driving a Rockingham County engine stationed in Bridgewater arrived on the scene of a tractor trailer crash in the Mount Crawford area around midnight Wednesday.

“They pulled up to the tractor and trailer accident, and as soon as they pulled the emergency brake, a car hit them from behind to the rear of the engine,” Holloway recounted. “The collision caused significant damage to the rear end of the engine.”

The Fire Chief also reported that the crash left the vehicle’s two passengers injured and entrapped within the car.

Fortunately, personnel were able to quickly extricate them, and one patient was transported to UVA Medical Center.

No rescue personnel were injured in the incident.
