LEXINGTON, Va. (EMU Athletics) – EMU had a tall task ahead of it on Tuesday, as they headed south to Lexington to take on the nationally-ranked Generals of Washington and Lee.

The Generals showed why they are ranked 22nd in the latest AVCA poll, as they picked up a 3-0 (25-7, 25-19, 25-7) win over the Royals.

Records: EMU 5-14, 1-4 ODAC | W&L 17-4, 5-2 ODAC

Set One: W&L 25, EMU 7
• The Generals got out to a 4-0 start before a kill from Kenley Smith put EMU on the board. Smith and Mckenzie Taylor added kills, as the Royals trailed 7-3 through the first 10 points.
• An 11-1 W&L run gave them an 18-4 lead before back-to-back EMU points, including a kill from Emma Rogers, pulled the Royals within 12. Unfortunately, W&L would end the set on a 7-1 tilt, with EMU’s only point coming from an Emma Greer kill, as the Generals took a 1-0 lead.
Set Two: W&L 25, EMU 19
• A Taylor service ace and a W&L error put EMU ahead to start the second set. After the Generals pulled ahead by one, the teams swapped points to EMU leading 7-5 after kills from Rogers and Logan Turchetta.
• Later in the set, with EMU leading 12-11 after a service error and a Greer kill, W&L responded with an 8-0 run to take a 19-12 lead. EMU then went on a 7-4 run, with Rogers picking up a pair of kills and Rebekah Allen adding a service ace. But 23-19 would be as close as EMU would get, as W&L used a Royals error and a kill to take a 2-0 match lead.
Set Three: W&L 25, EMU 7
• Like in set two, EMU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second set, using kills from Turchetta and Smith. A W&L service error, an Ella Lambert block and another Turchetta kill tied things at five.
• The Generals then broke the set open, going on an 18-1 run, with EMU’s lone point during that time coming on a Jada Parker kill. Smith stopped the run, picking up a kill, but W&L finished out the set with a kill and an error to wrap up the win.

Kills: Smith, Turchetta (5)
Assists: Taylor (9)
Digs: Emerson Moats (15)
