DAYTON, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – An electrical failure is to blame for the fire that destroyed the Dayton Mini Market earlier this week.

According to a news release from the Rockingham County Fire Marshal’s office, the electrical failure started in the storage room near the back of the building. The fire also destroyed four apartments located at 237 Main Street.

“Thankfully, there were no injuries, and the apartment residents were assisted by the American Red Cross,” Rockingham County Fire Chief Jeremy Holloway said in the release.

The estimated financial loss from the fire exceeds $750,000. The building owners are working with their insurance company in hopes of starting the rebuilding process soon.

The Dayton Tavern, located directly north of the Mini Mart, sustained moderate damage and will be closed indefinitely for repairs.
