NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – James Madison quarterback Alonza Barnett III won his second weekly conference award in as many games, as he was voted Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in JMU’s win at Texas State.

Barnett accounted for 362 total yards and five touchdowns to lead JMU to a dominant 52-20 win at Texas State last Tuesday. It was his second straight game of at least 350+ yards and 5+ touchdowns, as he did so in just over three quarters of work in San Marcos.

Barnett finished 12-of-18 for 264 passing yards and four touchdowns with one interception. He nearly ran for his second straight 100-yard game, rushing for a game-high 98 yards and a score. His performance included a 57-yard completion and a career-long 76-yard touchdown pass, as well as a 51-yard rush.

This is Barnett’s fourth career weekly Sun Belt honor and the second time he’s won the award in back-to-back games.

Barnett and the Dukes return to action on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Marshall. Kickoff from Joan C. Edwards Stadium is set for noon on the JMU Radio Network.
