HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Harrisonburg Public Utilities Department is asking community members to help identify what materials their home water service line is made from in order to ensure the health and wellness of The Friendly City.

City Communications Director Mike Parks says the information collected is part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions.

“Ultimately, what the goal of this is, is to identify if there are lead water service lines in use in a community and, if so, identify where those are and then the homeowner or business owner can work with a plumber or contractor to replace that with a line that would not have the possibility of lead possibly corroding into your drinking water,” Parks said.

Parks added that officials are not aware of any lead service lines in area homes or businesses but need help in identifying any lines that they may not know about.
