ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Former East Rockingham High School boys’ basketball coach Carey Keyes is returning to Elkton as he has been officially approved as the new Athletic Director at East Rock for the 2026-27 school year.

Keyes spent 11 seasons as the boys coach of the Eagles before stepping down last year to become the AD at Central High School in Woodstock.

During his time as head coach, Keyes led East Rockingham to a 205-77 record, and he reach the state tournament four times.

Keyes replaces Eric Phillips, who has been the schools’ only AD since it opened in 2010. Phillips left East Rock in October to become the Assistant Director of Athletics for the Virginia High School League.
