Bridgewater Volleyball sweeps Guilford in ODAC Quarterfinals

BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater College women’s volleyball took down No. 6 Guilford in straight sets Tuesday night in the ODAC quarterfinals Tuesday night.

Score: No. 3 Bridgewater (BCE) 3, No. 6 Guilford (GC) 0
Records: BCE (20-7 OVR, 8-3 ODAC), GC (18-9 OVR, 6-5 ODAC)

How It Happened

BCE put it all out there for the quarterfinals Tuesday night against the Quakers. In the first set, the Eagles swiped hard and fast at open looks on the gym floor. With an early 3-0 lead, the Eagles continued plunging away landing open blows as Reagan Stoop struck one down at 18-12. Faith DePew added more to the punch with a 25-21 set score.

The Eagles pulled away in the second set using another strong early start to the set. Another five-point scoring rally ensued along to take a 15-6 edge. More attacking sequences followed through while Maya Veselinovic carried some added sets for the strike at 25-13.

In the third set, the Eagles maintained a solid lead throughout, especially using the help from Gabby Atwell and Maya Veselinovic at 14-11. Claire Griffith pounded the next attacking sequence to make it 20-16. The lead was held the rest of the way for a 25-20 final set score.

Match Notes

Anna Black stole the defensive show with 19 digs.

The Eagles put up a .388 hitting percentage.

BCE pummeled 49 kills along with Faith DePew hoisting 13 kills alone.
