Bridgewater Field Hockey falls at Randolph-Macon, 1-0, in ODAC Quarterfinals

ASHLAND, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College field hockey team fell to No. 5 seeded Randolph-Macon, 1-0, on Tuesday night in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament.

Records: Bridgewater 8-10, Randolph-Macon 12-6

How It Happened
• The two sides traded possession back and forth and it was Randolph-Macon who registered the game’s first chance, but the RMC shot was blocked. BC had a chance to counter off of a penalty corner at the seven-minute mark, but the Eagles did not get a shot off. The Yellow Jackets countered and capitalized in the final minute of the opening frame as Ashley Nau made a save on the first shot of the RMC sequence, but the Yellow Jackets coraled the rebound and put it in the back oif the net to take a 1-0 lead after the opening stanza.
• Randolph-Macon had a penalty corner early in the second quarter, but the Eagles defense fended off the chance. Bridgewater had an opportunity with under five minutes to play in the half and Lexi Francis fired a shot that was turned away by the Yellow Jackets goalkeeper. RMC had a penalty corner a few moments later, but again the Yellow Jackets did not register a shot. Bridgewater flipped the field and had a series of penalty corners as time expired in the opening half. Autumn Just rifled a shot on target during the exchange and it was turned away as the home side kept a 1-0 lead at the break.
• BC had the first scoring chance of the second half on a penalty corner, but Carynn Klingler had her shot blocked. RMC flipped the field and had a series of chances, but a pair of saves by Madalyn Miller and a block by the Eagles kept it at a 1-0 gap. Randolph-Macon had one more opportunity just before the end of the period, but another save by Miller kept the Eagles in the contest heading to the fourth quarter.
• The Yellow Jackets opened the fourth quarter with a penalty corner in the opening minute of the final stanza of regulation. BC fended off the chance without allowing a shot and they fended off one more chance from the Yellow Jackets less than a minute later, and again the unit did not allow a shot. The Eagles kept pressing for a scoring chance, but did not statistically register one in the fourth quarter.

Game Notes
• BC registered four shots, with a pair on target. Miller made a trio of saves, while Nau made one in the net for the Eagles.
• Kujawa had the goal for the Yellow Jackets while registering a pair of shots on goal. Ambrogi-Torres made a pair of saves for RMC
• Randolph-Macon held a 9-4 edge in shots and a 5-2 advantage in shots on target.
