State Police identify victims in fatal crash involving passenger van and train

STUARTS DRAFT, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Virginia State Police have released the names of the victims who died in a crash involving a passenger van and a train in the Stuarts Draft area of Augusta County.

Virginia State Police say the crash was reported shortly after 8 p.m. Monday evening. A 2019 Ford transit van carrying four people was in the 100 block of Wayne Avenue when it was struck by the train and rolled over.

According to police, two male passengers and one female passenger were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

They have been identified as Abner Comete, 48, of Boynton Beach, Fla., Jacner Comete, 44, of Lauderhill, Fla., and Wilda Comete, 38, of Lithia Springs, Ga.  Abner Comete is believed to be the driver of the passenger van.
A fourth passenger, Ronide P. Louis, 28, of Lithia Springs, Ga., who was in the front seat and wearing a seatbelt, survived.  Louis was taken first to Augusta Health, and then to UVA Health with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. This is a developing story, and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
