88-year-old to hike Appalachian Trail to raise money and awareness

HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — To celebrate his 88th birthday, Bill Kingrea wanted to make a difference in the lives of others while challenging himself. Partnering with Hope Distributed, Bill will be walking the path of the Appalachian Trail beginning on September 18. When Bill finishes his “Hike for Hope” he will have traveled 107 miles using the hiking trails from Waynesboro to Front Royal.

To make the greatest impact on the Harrisonburg and Rockingham community, Bill is seeking individuals or businesses to consider making monetary pledges based on each mile he completes or by making one contribution towards his efforts to help fund the Hope Distributed program areas.

Hope Distributed serves over 40,000 families and individuals annually throughout Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. Spokesperson Jeff Wilhelm says, “Hope Distributed freely gives everything away cost free; therefore fundraisers, grants, and community support are vital in allowing Hope Distributed to continue fighting need in our area.”

Hope Distributed has three distinct branches of operation: a free food pantry, a free clothing store, and Baby Hope. These branches supply food, clothing, furniture, and diapers and wipes to individuals and families that are struggling financially, have been displaced, or who have experienced an unexpected change in their life circumstances.

Wilhelm added that “the mission of Hope Distributed is to provide and promote social well-being to the citizens of Rockingham County and surrounding localities by providing relief to low-income individuals and families with food, clothing, and baby care supplies in a dignified and respectful manner.”
