Smoke from the ongoing Canadian wildfires is causing air quality concerns for the second time this month, and the northern reaches of the Valley could breathe in some of the worst of it today.

According to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, air quality in the Winchester area is forecasted to become “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” later in the day. The Charlottesville area will likely see elevated levels of smoke pollution as well.

As of now, both areas remain under “Moderate” conditions.

A haze is certainly evident in Harrisonburg this morning, but it’s not expected to become unbearable.

We’ll keep you updated on air quality conditions throughout the day.
