Shenandoah County Schools are hoping to return nearly 90-thousand dollars of its budget to the county to pay for an additional school resource officer.

Lieutenant Whitney Mauck, the county’s S-R-O supervisor, said during last night’s Board of Supervisors meeting that every county school currently has an officer stationed on campus. However, she added that during an emergency or if an officer calls in sick, she would be responsible for covering that vacancy for up to six weeks.

Board chairman Karl Roulston said that having an extra officer would allow Mauck to focus more on supervising rather than filling in.

The board will consider taking action on the proposal during its next meeting on September 26th.
