HARRISONBURG, Va. –  One person is dead and three firefighters injured after a house fire in Harrisonburg Sunday.

Fire Chief Matt Tobia says that a neighbor alerted 9-1-1 that smoke was coming from a home in the 400 block of East Gay Street and that someone might be inside.  Crews arrived and immediately began a search and rescue mission pulling a man out of the blaze.  Tobia says despite their efforts, the man later died at the hospital and that three firefighters suffered minor injuries in the effort to pull the resident from the flames.

The home is a total loss and Tobia says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.  He also noted that the home did not appear to have any working smoke detectors.
