A Harrisonburg man is in custody after allegedly assaulting a Virginia State Police trooper over the weekend.

According to Sergeant Brent Coffey, 31-year-old Alberto Bravo Junior was charged with four felonies, including attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer.

Coffey reported the incident began shortly before 1:30 Sunday afternoon, when a trooper was positioned at an emergency crossover on Interstate 81 near mile marker 242. He said that’s when a car pulled into the crossover, and a female driver asked for help because Bravo, a passenger in the car, was assaulting her.

Bravo reportedly brandished a gun and continued to assault the woman in view of the officer. Coffey says the man then attacked the trooper when he tried to intervene.

Bravo was eventually apprehended and is currently held without bond at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Regional Jail.

Three juvenile passengers were in the vehicle at the time, but none were injured.
