Harrisonburg, VA (WSVA) – After much discussion, Harrisonburg City Public Schools has decided not to change school start times, at least for now.

At this week’s School Board Work Session, the board unanimously voted to scrap a proposed schedule adjustment after board member Deb Fitzgerald asked Superintendent Dr. Michael Richards to come up with an alternative plan.

Fitzgerald said that while some community members were frustrated with the postponement of the vote, it allowed the board to look at more information that was brought to them just hours before and vote in good conscience.

Board member Kaylene Seigle seconded Fitzgerald’s motion and said that after looking at feedback from staff, students, and parents and scientific evidence, there’s a contrast, and she couldn’t go forward with this current plan.

Dr. Richards said he is hoping to have a new plan by sometime in April for the board.
