BROADWAY, Va – (WSVA) An electrical issue was the cause of a fire that heavily damaged an apartment building earlier today in Broadway.

Rockingham County Fire and Rescue Chief Jeremy Holloway says crews were dispatched at around noon to an apartment complex in the 200 block of North Main Street.

He said when crews arrived, they found flames inside one of the apartments. It took crews about 20 minutes to have the fire under control and were able to keep the damage to one apartment.

He added that there were no injuries but two pets perished in the fire. He also stresses that folks need to make sure they have working smoke detectors in their homes.
