MOUNT JACKSON, Va. – Investigators will be back on the scene today trying to determine the cause of a fire that burned Randy’s Do It Best hardware store in Mount Jackson early Saturday morning.

Fire departments from Shenandoah, Page and Rockingham County and the City of Harrisonburg responded to the blaze at 2:45 a.m. Saturday morning.

The store, operated as Zerkel’s Hardware for decades, before changing hands in 2019, becoming Randy’s Hardware. It had undergone a major remodeling late in 2019.
Main street in Mount Jackson was shut down for several hours due to the fire.
The owners of the store Randy and Shirley Andes received an outpouring of support from friends and customers on social media Saturday.
In a statement on their Facebook page, Randy’s thanked the emergency services that fought the fire and stopped it from spreading to nearby propane tanks and stated that they will rebuild the store

Randy’s Do It Best Hardware
Today we’re grieving the loss of our beloved Mt. Jackson Hardware Store along with the original owners, the Zerkel Family. The fire is still smoldering and we await the results of the fire investigation, yet the quick actions of the Mt. Jackson Fire Department and other local fire departments kept surrounding structures and lives safe. No one was injured in the blaze thanks to the firefighter’s heroic work. While we mourn the loss of our inventory and structure we are committed to rebuilding as soon as possible. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers on behalf of the employees, owners, and first responders.
