ELKTON, Va. – Elkton Mayor Josh Gooden is speaking out on the recent firing of a town official.

Gooden said in a Facebook post that he has never been more ashamed than after Monday night’s Town Council meeting where Town Manager Greg Lunsford was terminated on a 4-2 vote.

Gooden called the firing a vote to move Elkton back in time 30 years.

He also noted that the deadline to file a petition to run for Town Council is tomorrow night.

Lunsford had been with the town since February of 2020.  His termination was effective immediately.

Also, Town Hall is closed for the remainder of the week.
