STAUNTON, Va – After a number of delays, the case of an Alabama woman accused of causing a fatal crash on Interstate 81 is finally moving on in the courts.

Online records revealed that a charge of felony involuntary manslaughter against Jennifer Nichols was certified to the grand jury during a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon in Augusta County General District Court.

Virginia State Police say the 40-year-old Nichols, who is from Birmingham, was driving north in the southbound lanes of I-81 just south of Staunton last April 3rd when her car collided head-on with a pick-up truck.

The driver of the truck, 39-year old Jason Pierce of Roanoke, died as a result of the crash.

Alcohol was a factor in the accident.
