Afton, Va. – Authorities say more than a dozen people have been hospitalized after a commercial bus hit an overturned tractor trailer on Afton Mountain.
State Police report 19 people were brought to hospitals after the Sunday morning crash on Interstate 64 at the Augusta/Nelson County line.

Police say at about 4:30 Sunday morning, the tractor trailer was heading east when the driver lost control and overturned across the road. A bus with 20 passengers couldn’t stop in time and hit the tractor trailer, splitting the trailer in half.
No one was killed wreck. State Police say the injuries ranged from minor to serious.
The U.S. Postal Inspector also responded to the scene since the tractor-trailer was loaded with U.S. mail.
There were at least seven other minor crashes that occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-64 immediately following the initial crash. None of those crashes involved any injuries.
