Horsin’ Around with Shenandoah Downs

“Wanna horse around with the Shenandoah Downs and become the owner of a race horse for a day?  Even win part of the purse they win?  Then be listening to WQPO from between 6am-7pm for us to play a  the call to post.  Be caller number ten when you hear it at 540-434-4144 and you’ll be qualified for a chance to be paired with a horse running at the Shenandoah Downs on September 30. Contest Rules

Horsin’ Around with Shenandoah Downs:

WQPO Callers must listen between the hours of 6a-7p September 19-21 for the cue to call  When played, station will take the specified caller.  Caller must answer a trivia question correctly to become the qualifier.  If the answer is not correct, a caller will be taken until the correct answer is given. This qualification may allow for you to be “Owner for a Day” of a randomly selected horse running at Shenandoah Downs on September 30, 2018. Winner will be randomly selected from those qualified and announced on or before 10am September 24, 2018 by the WQPO morning show hosts.

Prize will be awarded if winner is present at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds and checks in with race officials no later than 12pm on September 30, 2018. Prize is a percentage of the purse won by a horse selected at random with winner and race and contest officials at the Shenandoah Downs on September 30, 2018. Winner’s share of the purse, depends on where their matched horse finishes in the race, and could be worth up to $2000.00.  Winner will also receive lunch, tours of the fairgrounds, and photo opportunities with the horses before the race and in the winner’s circle if applicable.

Must be 18 years of age to participate. Must be available to attend race day September 30, 2018 at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds or prize will be forfeited. WQPO contests are open to all eligible listeners 18 or older that have not won anything on any of the Harrisonburg Radio Group radio stations in the past 30 days or any prize valued at $600 or more in the past 6 months. Only one winner per household is permitted within 30 days after a household has a winner. Any prize awarded to an ineligible listener will be deemed null and void, and an alternate eligible winner may be named.

Employees of WQPO, Harrisonburg Radio Group, Tidewater Communications, and its ultimate parent company, Saga Communications, Inc., their advertising agencies, affiliates, contest sponsors, employees and immediate families of each, and employees of all media of mass communication within a one hundred mile radius of the WQPO main studio are not eligible to win any contest.  Immediate family includes the spouse, great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of the employee and his/her spouse. This also includes individuals for whom the employee is current legal guardian.

Additional rules from venue, Shenandoah Downs, are as follows:

The promotional contest winners will gather at the track before the first race on September 30th where a random drawing will determine which horses will be paired will the finalists.

Prize money of the $4000 purse will be distributed as follows: 50% for 1st place, or $2000; 25% for 2nd place, or $1000; 12% for 3rd place, or $480; 8% for 4th place, or $320; 5% for 5th place, or $200. Promotional owners of horses finishing in 6th thru 8th place will each get $50. Any taxes incurred are the winner’s responsibility. In the event of a tie, the purse between the two or more finishing places in question will be combined and divided equally between the promotional contestants.

Contest winners must be present on September 30th to participate. If there is a no-show, a local non-profit will automatically be awarded the prize money for any unclaimed horse or horses.

A contestant may only “own” one horse in the promotion.

Contestants must be 18 years of age or older.

Contest winners will receive their winnings via check within two weeks after the promotion.

By participating, contestants understand their pictures will be taken at the event for promotional purposes.
