JMU Women’s Soccer wraps up regular season with 4-2 win at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas (JMU Athletics) – James Madison women’s soccer unleashed at least four goals for the fifth time this season as the Dukes handled Texas State, 4-2, at Bobcat Soccer Complex on Wednesday night.

JMU finishes 9-4-5 (5-2-3 SBC) on the regular season, as the Bobcats will sit at 8-3-6 (5-1-4 SBC) on the campaign. Aleigha Arndt, Lena Dahms, Audrey Orrock, and Avery White found the scoring column, with Dahms and A. White logging the first scores of their careers. Arndt Abby Fisher, Ginny Lackey, Selma Rajakangas, Jamie Swartz, adding assists. Mady Soumare and Matsuri Tsutsui were the Bobcats’ goal scorers.

Sofia DeCerb and Lili White split time in goal, starting the first and second halves, respectively. DeCerb corralled three saves.

How it Happened
• The Bobcats delivered a pair of shots in the eighth minute, with each resulting in a save.
• Despite acquiring two corners and taking two shots in the tenth minute, the Dukes could not find the scoreboard.
• Texas State put themselves in control, 1-0, after Soumare’s shot from the top of the box cleared the posts in the 18th minute.
• After drawing a corner in the 30th minute, Fisher’s set piece volleyed off the heads of Swartz and then Dahms before finding the net to equalize the match, 1-1.
• After intercepting an errant Texas State clearance, White fired a ball over the Bobcat’s keeper to take a 2-1 lead in the 35th minute.
• Following a series of passes from Lackey and Rajakangas, Arndt fired a shot into the back corner of the net to double the James Madison lead in the 47th minute, 3-1.
• Texas State shaved its deficit to one after converting a penalty in the 48th minute.
• Arndt connected with Orrock in the penalty area, who buried a high shot to extend the James Madison lead to 4-2 in the 57th minute.
• JMU outshot the Bobcats 5-0 in the next 23 minutes of play and held them to only two shots in the half overall as the Dukes solidified the result.
